How does background syncing work with Android?

Biostrap can sync data while the app is in the background, but Android has a few requirements for that to happen. 



  • Android MUST allow Biostrap to run in the Background

  • Android MUST not put the Biostrap App to “sleep mode” while it is running in the background.


These are controlled by Android’s “Battery Power Management” settings.


Basically, we have to DISABLE “Battery Optimization” for Biostrap App.


Unfortunately, each Android phone implements it differently. Therefore you will have to go thru your phone’s “Setting”, and figure out how to select those settings.


For Pixel and Motorola - 



  • Go to phone’s Settings

  • Click on “Battery”

  • Click on “3 DOTS” menu at the upper right corner

  • Click Battery Optimization

  • Select Biostrap from the List of Apps

  • Click and Select “Don’t Optimize”


For Samsung



  • Go to Settings

  • Click “Device Maintenance”

  • Click on “Battery”

  • Click on “Unmonitored Apps”

  • Click on “Add Apps”

  • Select “Biostrap”


Allowing Biostrap to sync in the background will dramatically improve the overall usability of Biostrap. While phone’s screen is OFF or you are using some other App on your phone, the Biostrap App sitting in the background will try to sync data from the devices every 10 minutes. That means, when you open the  Biostrap App after a long time, the dashboard would be updated very quickly (within few minutes), because most of the data from the devices has already been synced with the phone.
